HAT MAKING: FIBER FUSION HAT CREATIONS

Instructor: Tammy Deck   Learn the art of fiber fusion applied to hat sculpting/making.  Hand-Dyed Bamboo and/or Tencel fibers will be layered and bonded into a shimmering, permanet, paper-like fabric (water resistant). The resulting hats are lightweight, artsy and certainly one-of-a-kind. 

The first day is spent preparing our hat blocks, laying out the fiber, applying the bonding medium and draping/sculpting on hat blocks. We allow them to dry over night...releasing them, finishing and embellishing  the next afternoon.

Base fiber materials and supplies provided via the class fee. Come to class with basic hand sewing skills, a crown block if you have one (optional), sewing supplies and trimming option (ribbons, flowers, buttons & beads).
Wear old clothes to 1st class.
Date: July 1st and 2nd, 2013
Meets: Monday and Tuesday, 2pm to 5pm each day

Hat Making: Blocking Straw into a Hat

Instructor: Jenny Pfanenstiel of Forme Millinery    

Students will learn the different types of straw for blocking and how they are best used. They will learn how to wet and steam the straw to form it over a hat block to make a shape of a hat. The crown and a brim will be blocked separately, then hand sewn together. The hat will be finished with wiring on the brim, a sweat band in the crown and embellished as desired. Students will walk away with a beautiful spring or winter hat that they can wear with pride.
All hat bodies, hat forms, rope and wiring will be provided. Students are to bring embellishments and a sewing kit that includes needles, thread, pins, scissors, thimble, elastic, hammer, nails, tacks, pliers, a variety of thread colors, a spray bottle for water and a towel.

Prerequisite: Students must know how to hand sew. Phone us at 630.963.9573 to register

Make a House with Cory McCrory

Come spend the day in the mud working in paperclay with Cory. She will lead you down the path towards building your own whimsical house for pouring or for storing.

Date: April 20th from 10am to 5:30pm (to build your house)

Using clay like fabric, in this class, students will explore texture and color making drinking vessels.
